I started burning myself at the age of 15. A friend and I burned ourselves in an attempt to engrave a symbol on our arms.

Our validity as a family has been questioned and minimized. For some time, it felt like just something we had to deal with. But lately it’s felt nearly impossible and, frankly, downright unsafe.

Forty-two years ago at the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, a group of gay dads founded the Gay Fathers Coalition to fight for LGBTQ+ families.
